Michael Jackson, a WSP executive, has been appointed as the president of the Consulting Engineers of Alberta for the 2025-2026 term. He has previously served as a director and vice-president at CEA and is keen to advance the engineering profession in Alberta. Thurber Engineering has appointed Campbell Chow as the new president and CEO, and David Regehr as the chief operating officer. Chow, who joined Thurber in 1993, brings a wealth of experience in industrial and commercial infrastructure projects to his new role. Regehr has been with the company for 25 years and will focus on achieving operational excellence. Both leaders studied engineering in Alberta and have had long-standing careers with the firm.

Beacon AI Centers has enlisted Stantec, an Edmonton-based consulting engineering firm, to design and engineer six AI data center campuses in Alberta to meet growing demand. Stantec will provide a range of services, including architectural and sustainability, across five municipalities. The projects will span hundreds of acres, with design and permitting starting in 2024 and construction commencing this year. Stantec aims to position Alberta as a key player in data-driven AI innovation.

CIMA+, a consulting engineering firm, has acquired B&A, an urban planning company based in Calgary with additional offices in Vancouver and Edmonton, as part of its expansion in Western Canada. This acquisition marks CIMA+'s entry into the urban planning sector and aims to enhance support for sustainable development across the nation. The merger allows CIMA+ to broaden its service offerings from the conceptual phase to project completion. The acquisition took effect on May 1.

The consulting engineering firm Dialog has inaugurated Alberta's first wildlife overpass outside Banff National Park, located between Lac des Arcs and Highway 1X in Bow Valley. The overpass aims to reduce wildlife-vehicle collisions on a busy stretch of highway, improving animal safety and migration routes. The design features soil and vegetation to integrate with the natural landscape and includes 12 km of exclusion fencing. Dialog plans to build three more crossings in partnership with Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors.

Associated Engineering has promoted Richard Simpson to senior vice-president of their environmental division, effective May 1. Simpson joined the company in 2013 and has been working in environmental planning and regulatory approvals across Western Canada. In his new role, he will lead marketing, service delivery, and technical development of staff, while supporting business development and project delivery across various disciplines. Some notable projects he has worked on include Edmonton’s LRT projects and the West Calgary Ring Road.
