NWMO chooses firms for deep geological repository for used nuclear fuel

The Nuclear Waste Management Organization (NWMO) has selected five firms to plan and design Canada’s deep geological repository for used nuclear fuel in northwestern Ontario. The vendors, WSP, Kiewit, Hatch, Thyssen Mining, and Kinectrics, will handle various aspects of the project including architectural and engineering design, construction, and nuclear management. This initiative will employ an integrated project delivery model, engaging relevant stakeholders and the host communities of Ignace, Ontario, and the Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation. Construction will commence after fulfilling federal and Indigenous regulatory requirements.

L’Organisation de gestion des déchets nucléaires (NWMO) a choisi cinq entreprises pour concevoir et planifier un dépôt géologique pour les combustibles nucléaires usés dans le nord-ouest de l’Ontario. Les firmes WSP, Kiewit, Hatch, Thyssen Mining et Kinectrics se chargeront des divers aspects du projet comme la conception d’architecture, la construction, et la gestion nucléaire. Le projet adoptera un modèle de livraison intégré, impliquant les parties prenantes et les communautés hôtes d’Ignace, en Ontario, et de la Nation Ojibway du lac Wabigoon. La construction commencera après l'approbation des régulations fédérales et autochtones.
