Province to fund new construction and facility improvements at Alberta Hospital Edmonton

The Government of Alberta is investing over $141 million in capital funding for the Alberta Hospital Edmonton (AHE) to improve infrastructure and expand services. This includes constructing the Edmonton Recovery Community and the Northern Alberta Compassionate Intervention Centre, adding 225 addiction treatment beds to the existing 460 psychiatric treatment beds. Construction is set to begin in 2026, aiming to modernize the hospital and enhance mental health and addiction treatment facilities. More than $13 million will also be allocated to update and maintain AHE's infrastructure, including demolishing vacant buildings.
