The Quebec-based company Davie has launched the construction of the Polar Max icebreaker at its Helsinki shipyard as part of Canada's National Shipbuilding Strategy. This $8.5 billion project involves seven icebreakers and two ferries, marking a collaboration between North American and European teams. The event aims to elevate Quebec’s status in the global naval industry, backed by financial contributions from the Quebec government totalling C$110 million for acquiring assets in Helsinki. Minister Christopher Skeete highlighted the importance of this venture in strengthening Quebec’s and Canada’s global naval presence.
