CNSC authorizes construction of waste storage facility at Pickering site

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission has authorized Ontario Power Generation to construct and operate the Pickering Component Storage Structure at the Pickering Waste Management Facility. This facility will store low- and intermediate-level waste from potential refurbishment and future decommissioning activities of the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station Units. The decision does not cover refurbishment activities, which will require a separate application and hearing in 2026. This project aligns with Ontario's energy goals by contributing additional electricity production capacity.
