CIB commits $24M to renewable energy project in remote Quebec First Nation

The Canada Infrastructure Bank has provided a $24-million loan to support the Atikamekw of Opitciwan First Nation in transitioning to renewable energy by constructing a 4.8-megawatt biomass cogeneration plant. This project aims to eliminate diesel as the primary energy source, reducing emissions and supporting community growth by creating jobs and improving the reliability of the local power supply. The initiative serves as a model for other Indigenous communities in Quebec and Canada to adopt cleaner energy solutions.

La Banque de l'infrastructure du Canada a octroyé un prêt de 24 millions de dollars pour aider la communauté atikamekw d'Opitciwan à passer aux énergies renouvelables grâce à la construction d'une centrale de cogénération de biomasse de 4,8 mégawatts. Ce projet vise à éliminer le diesel comme source d'énergie principale, à réduire les émissions et à favoriser la croissance communautaire en créant des emplois et en améliorant la fiabilité de l'approvisionnement électrique local.
