Construction employment drops in February

In February, Canada's construction sector experienced a decline, with payroll employment dropping by 3,600 positions, representing a 0.3% decrease, aligning with the national employment trend. On a year-over-year basis, construction employment grew slightly by 0.1%. Additionally, the construction industry faced significant job vacancies, having 18,500 fewer positions available compared to the previous year, although it still recorded 40,000 vacancies. The job vacancy rate in construction stood at 3.3%, slightly above the national rate.
